Ford’s product portfolio is expanding again – and in another new direction. The new Ford Kuga is an exciting All-wheel Drive (AWD) crossover that combines style with technology and promises impressive on-road dynamics coupled with substantial off-road ability.

“The Kuga is a stylish and exciting proposition for customers,” says Ford Marketing Manager, Gavin Golightly. “Not only does it look good and promise a rewarding driving experience but it offers exceptional practicality and comfort too.” The Kuga boasts an intelligent AWD system for those who want to use it cross country while Ford’s acclaimed driving dynamics and excellent steering performance ensure conventional passenger car-like handling. The intelligent AWD system uses an ‘on demand’ rear-wheel-drive system. The electronically controlled intelligent AWD system transmits as much torque to the rear wheels as needed to ensure the best traction under all possible cornering and accelerating conditions, while being careful to avoid a negative impact on the fuel consumption. “Ford prides itself on creating dynamic and fun-to-drive vehicles and the Kuga is no different. Engineers focused strongly on ensuring the Kuga offers a rewarding drive on road while still being able to rough it when conditions demand,” adds Golightly.
The Kuga will be available with a 2.5-litre Duratec Turbo petrol engine as well as a Durashift 5-tronic automatic transmission. With a maximum power output of 147kW at 6,000rpm and a linear torque peak of 320 Nm being available from 1,600 up to 4,000rpm, the vehicle reaches a top speed of 202 km/h. The Kuga delivers a combined fuel economy figure of just 10.3 l/100 km and has an average CO2 output of 244g/km.

The Kuga is characterised by its bold styling. Distinctive headlights; contoured bonnet; large trapezoidal grille and twin exhausts create a powerful iconic profile that sets it apart. The pronounced wheel arches, stylish air vents and muscular shoulder line provide an energetic stance.

“The Kuga is not just a pretty face though,” says Golightly. “Styling is a key consideration in many customers buying decision, but ultimately they require a vehicle that caters to their day-today activities. The versatility and practicality of the Kuga makes it an attractive option for people on the go.”

A split tailgate with separate access to either the upper tailgate section only or both sections simultaneously ensures maximum flexibility. Second row underseat storage, a generous cargo area and a high compartment sill ensure ease of use when loading heavy items in the car. Furthermore loose items can be tethered using four D-ring tie-down points. A ‘one-touch’ push function for the rear tonneau cover and flexible netting in the luggage area (only available in the Trend) that automatically moves is joined to the tonneau cover for maximum security.

Like other Ford models, the Kuga is recognised for its safety standards and performance. Equipped with disc brakes all-round, the Kuga gives assured braking performance at all times. All model and drive types feature standard Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Anti Rollover Mitigation (ARM) and Electronic Brake Assist (EBA). The Kuga comes well equipped with a host of smart technology features. A Ford Power start button, cruise control, Bluetooth with voice control functionality, full leather trim with 6-way power driver seat and heated front seats, power windows and heated, powered door mirrors are available as standard features. Rain sensitive wipers, auto dimming rear view mirror Dual Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (DEATC) air conditioning, rear parking sensors (all available only on the Titanium) are just a few of the standard features that make the Kuga a luxurious place to be. Additional features such as green tinted privacy glass, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a panoramic glass roof further on the Titanium, add to the overall appeal of the Kuga.

The Kuga comes with a comprehensive 4-year / 120 000km warranty and 4-year / 80 000km service plan. Added piece of mind comes in the way of a 3-year /unlimited km roadside assistance plan while service intervals are staggered at 20 000km.
